The course is an easy to follow modular structure so that you can fit your training around your life. The course should take between six and eighteen months to complete. Parts 1 and 2 (theory and driving ability) can be studied together to reduce the time it takes to finish the course.

You can choose to pay for all three parts up front and receive fantastic discounts or spread the cost by purchasing each part as you progress.

ADI Part 1- The Theory & Hazard Perception Test

This is an I.T. based theory test using touch-screen technology.

You will be given 90 minutes to complete the test consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions. There is also a I.T. based hazard perception element which tests your ability to recognize developing hazardous situations.

In order to keep costs down we advise you study for the Part 1 theory test at home using our recommended reading materials which we provide. However, to maximise your learning we recommend that you undertake Part 2 training parallel to your Part 1 studies.

Theory Option 1 Home based study/distance learning
Theory Option 2 Combining home based study with with Part 2 training.

Assessing your readiness for the ADI Theory Test is achieved by studying the complete question bank published by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) & available as part of the reading material provided by UK Road Safety.

We're here to help

You may be working at home but you are not alone. Advice and help will be on hand from your trainer when you need it.

ADI Part 2- The test of your Driving Ability

This is the first practical test that will test both your eyes (your eyes will be checked before any training is commenced) & driving technique. This test is of an advanced standard and lasts about an hour.

You will be expected to drive positively in a brisk & business like manner. You must also drive safely & show sound judgement of distance, speed & timing.

All our training is based on the DSA book "Driving - The Essential Skills" which is recognised within the industry as the key to safe driving.

Training can be carried out on an hourly, half-day or daily basis to fit in with your current commitments. All training is carried out on a 1-2-1 basis to maximise learning

We aim to demonstrate the links between the driving ability training and the instructional process.

Our Driving Instructor Training programme aims to ensure that you have comprehensive and broad knowledge and confidence to succeed. All our training is pitched at a level beyond that at which you will be tested, this again ensures your success.

We ensure that our training programme keeps pace with changes to the syllabus introduced by the DSA and covers the new Eco-Safe-Driving and Show-Me-Tell-me elements

Finally, all clients undergo mock tests undertaken by our experienced instructor trainers who are not involved with your training. Again this allows you the very best chance of success.

After you have passed Part 2 you may be able to begin work as a driving instructor before you take your part three test by joining the trainee licence scheme (see below for more details).

ADI Part 3- The test of your instructional ability

This test lasts about an hour & is split into two equal parts. The purpose is to assess your knowledge & ability to teach learner drivers.

You will be expected to give practical instruction to an examiner who will first portray either the role of a complete beginner or a partly trained pupil with limited knowledge, & then as a pupil who is about test standard.

From 6th March 2006 examiners will also have the option to assess an instructors ability to coach qualified drivers who are taking driver development training. Our trainers experienced in the Fleet Driver Training field will allow them to develop your coaching skills in preparation for this new role play scenario.

The minimum practical training is 40 hours with an option to take up the ADI Trainee Licence if you wish at the end. It will involve a degree of home study on your part to prepare lesson plans to be used during training. Don't worry we will assist you & provide the necessary teaching aids along with full email & telephone support.

You will be taught to instruct in each of the twelve topic areas that make up the test curriculum. We will harness the knowledge & experience you gained during training for Parts 1 & 2.

Again the training is carried out on a 1-2-1 basis & can be tailored to fit in with your current commitments.

To assess you progress we will conduct a series of mock tests to identify individual training needs. Our aim is to ensure that you are fully prepared for the test by having the ability & confidence to pass the test.

Should any extra training be necessary, this can be arranged & agreed for an additional fee.

You will be graded from 1 to 6 for phase one and 1 to 6 for phase two. Scoring 1,2,or 3 is a fail, scoring 4,5 or 6 is a pass. To achieve an overall pass you need to score at least a grade 4 for each phase.

ADI The Trainee Licence

Another option to consider is taking a trainee licence after you have trained for your part three test but before you actually sit the final exam. This is often a great way of gaining valuable experience with REAL LEARNERS and also earning REAL MONEY before the final test.

There are certain terms and conditions as laid out by the DSA involved with taking this route and indeed it doesn’t suit everyone. However if it is the right thing for you to do we are usually able to offer a position as a trainee driving instructor. Please ask your trainer for more advice.
